Berber carpets are named for the traditional hand-woven carpets of the Berber people of North Africa. Today, berber carpets are a modern style of carpet, distinguished by a loop pile type that gives a similar appearance to traditionally woven Berber carpets. They usually contain small flecks of dark color on a lighter background resembling a natural undyed version of the traditional carpets. Relatively cheap and durable, berber carpets are popular for areas with significantly heavy use.
